How WordQuest works

WordQuest is a word-guessing game: a hidden word from a category, one letter at a time. That part takes ten seconds to learn. Everything around it — energy, points, streaks, levels — is explained here, with the actual numbers the game runs on.

The basics

Every round hides one word. You are told its category and how many letters it has, and you guess one letter at a time. Correct letters appear everywhere they occur in the word; a letter that isn't there counts as a mistake.

9 wrong guesses end the round. Correct letters cost you nothing, so there is never a reason not to try one you are sure of.

There are 19 categories and four word languages — English, Dutch, Turkish and Spanish — with 10,000+ words live today. The language of the words is a separate choice from the language of the menus, so you can play Turkish words with an English interface, or the other way round.

The four guessing modes

All four use the same guessing rules. What changes is the clock, the opponent and the price.

Classic

⚡ 1

One word, no clock, your choice of language and category. This is the mode almost everyone plays and the one the main leaderboard is built from.

Daily Word

Free

One word a day, the same word for everybody playing in that language, and it costs no energy. There is a separate daily board per language, so a Turkish player and a Dutch player are not solving the same puzzle.

Sprint

⚡ 3

Against the clock: 15 seconds for the first word, rising to 16 seconds once you are 3 words into a run and 17 seconds from 5. One wrong-footed word ends the run.

Duel

⚡ 2

You and one other player get the same 5 words. Both scores are added up and the higher total wins. You can challenge a friend directly or post an open duel for anyone to accept.

Lex's Hunt — the word search

Lex's Hunt is a word search inside WordQuest. Every level is a grid of letters, from 7×7 up to 10×10, with 5 to 11 words hidden in it. Drag across the letters to pull a word out: words run across, down and diagonally, forwards or backwards. Find them all and the level is done.

A few entries in the list are not the word but a description of it. “A striped African horse” means you look for ZEBRA — work out the word first, then find it.

There are 300 levels in each of the four languages — Turkish, English, Dutch and Spanish — and they open one after another.

Your time is what counts. Stuck? Lex points at where a word starts. The first hint of a hunt is free; after that each one uses a letter reveal from the shop. Every hint adds 20 seconds to your time, so a careful player can beat a fast one.

Lex's Daily Hunt is one grid a day, the same for everybody playing in that language. It costs no energy and can be played once — and its clock starts the moment you open it.

In a hunt duel you and your opponent get exactly the same grid, and the lower time wins, hints included. Challenge someone by name or leave an open challenge for anyone to take.

A level pays only once. Playing it again is for a better time, not for more points.

The Hunt has its own leaderboard, which counts the levels you have finished. Every level and every Daily Hunt also has a board of its own, so you can see how your time compares.

Lex's Journey

Lex's Journey is a second game inside WordQuest: swipe the letters on the wheel to make words and fill a small crossword. Find every word and the level is passed. Every 10 levels make one stop on Lex's trip — a real place, from Cappadocia and Istanbul to London, Amsterdam and far beyond — and the last level of each stop is a harder boss level.

The words are Turkish, English or Dutch. Every language is its own journey with its own progress, and the flag on the map switches between them. Spanish players travel in English for now.

Longest word first
+10 XP, +15 🏆, +2 ◈ if your first word is the longest one (before any hint, without leaving the game)

Coming back to a level you already started is free, and a level pays only once. Passing one counts for your day streak and for the first win of the day, but not for the weekly leaderboard.

A level passed without a hint earns 3 stars, with 1–2 hints 2 stars, and with more 1 star. Leave the game for more than 10 seconds during a level and that level gives 2 stars at most.

A hint opens one letter of the crossword and uses one letter reveal — the same ones the shop sells (3 for 60 ◈). Your first level comes with 3 free letter reveals.

Your profile shows how far you've travelled and a passport with a stamp for every place you finish — share a new stamp straight from the level-complete card. The Journey also has its own badges, and the map shows your place in the Journey ranking, which adds up the levels you passed in every language.

Energy

Energy is what lets you start a game. It refills on its own, so it is a pace limit rather than a paywall — the Daily Word never costs any.

Daily Word
Free

You get 1 energy back every 15 minutes, all day, whether or not the app is open. Premium members refill three times faster, one every 5 minutes.

Your tank starts at 15 and grows as you level up: 1 extra for every 3 levels, plus 5 more once you reach level 100. Premium adds another 5.

Energy only refills up to your cap. A refill bought in the shop can push you above it, and nothing is lost when it does — but ordinary regeneration stops at the line, so a full tank sitting unused is wasted time.

Out of energy and impatient? The Daily Word is always free, and the shop sells refills for WQ Points you have already earned.

How your score is worked out

Your score for a round is the number that goes on the leaderboard. It rewards solving quickly and cleanly, not just solving.

When you don't

A lost round still counts the letters you found and the mistakes you made, but there is no starting amount and no bonuses — and the total never goes below zero. Losing costs you the energy, not your standing.

This score is not the same thing as WQ Points ◈. Score decides your rank; WQ Points are the currency you spend in the shop. One game pays both.

XP and levels

XP is separate again: it never resets with the season and it only ever goes up. It is what raises your level, and your level is what raises your energy cap.

WQ Points are the game's currency. You earn them by playing and spend them in the shop. Nothing in the shop affects another player's game, so a big balance never buys an advantage over someone else.

Streaks

Two different streaks are running at once, and they are easy to mix up.

Your winning streak

How many games you have won in a row. It pays 5 extra XP on every win from the second one onward, and it breaks the moment you lose a round.

Your day streak

How many days in a row you have played at all. This is the one the login rewards and the shield are attached to. It doesn't care whether you won.

A day streak pays twice over, and the two rewards are on different schedules. The daily login reward is XP: 50 on day one, rising to 250 by day seven, and 500 on day thirty — after the first week the seven-day pattern repeats. Separately, reaching 3, 7 and 30 days pays WQ Points, and the 30-day payment repeats every 30 days for as long as you keep the streak alive.

A streak shield (60 ◈ in the shop) covers one missed day so a busy Tuesday doesn't erase two months. You can hold 2 at a time.

Clues, letter reveals and extra lives

The clue

Every word carries a written clue. In Sprint it is on screen from the first second and costs nothing. In Classic, the Daily Word and duels, reading it costs 5 points off that round's score — worth it when the alternative is losing the round outright.

Letter reveals

A letter reveal uncovers one correct letter, chosen by the game. Reveals are bought in the shop in packs of 3 or 10, and Premium members get one free every day.

One more life

An extra life rubs out one mistake for 40 ◈. It works in Classic only, once per game, and only once you already have at least 2 mistakes — so it can rescue a round but can never manufacture a flawless one.

Achievements and leaderboards

There are 58 achievements, most of them in tiers, and each one pays WQ Points when it unlocks. They cover the obvious milestones (games won, words solved, days played) and some less obvious ones.

Leaderboards rank on the score you earn from your games. You can see the world, your country, and just the people you follow — and there is a separate board for the Daily Word and for Sprint runs.

Seasons reset the standings periodically so a board is never permanently owned by whoever started earliest. Your level, your XP and your WQ Points are yours to keep — a season only resets the ranking.

Premium

Premium is optional and changes nothing about how words are chosen or how scoring works. It removes waiting, and it speeds up levelling.

A bigger energy tank
+5
Energy refills three times faster
every 5 min instead of 15
More XP from every game
+25%
A free letter reveal every day
1 per day

What Premium deliberately does not do: it does not give easier words, more time in Sprint, any advantage inside a duel, or points that other players cannot also earn by playing.
